I think it's imperative to get the Alumni Association involved, as they will be the best avenue for getting the word out to alumni who have played for the club over the past 19 years (hard to believe it's been that long!).
I'm willing to help out with planning the event, but keep in mind that I'm out in California.
My thought was to try to have the game during Homecoming weekend; Coach Cal would like to schedule it before a regular league game. Either way would work.
Coach Cal would like to use the game to help recruit new players. I think this is a good idea since some of the alums in the NE area might know kids who would consider SC. Those of us in areas where SC is not as well known may not be as useful on this end.
Three ways you could go with this in terms of paying for the event - a) SC pays for it, either through the Alumni Association or Club funds; b) alumni participants cover the cost of the ice time; or c) alumni participants cover the cost of ice time PLUS an additional fee is tacked on as a fundraiser for the club. All depends on what the goal of the event is and how many participants you want to have. You could also charge all alumni participants for jerseys that they would get to keep.
If any hockey club alums are out there that would be interested in playing and/or helping to organize an alumni game next fall, go ahead and contact me directly at jpaerels@aol.com. Be sure to send your name, years you played, position, and contact info. Any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
